NEW DUNDEE OFFICE

The Partners are delighted to announce that Ablett & Stebbing has established its first Scottish office in Dundee.

We have been in practice in London since 1993, and are keen to aid Scottish businesses with their intellectual property requirements, and identified Dundee as the perfect location for this new venture.

We are a multi-disciplinary firm of intellectual property specialists, covering all legal and technical disciplines within the field of intellectual property law and represent a diverse range of clients from small enterprises to universities to multinational corporations in Europe, Japan and America.

Our highly qualified and experienced staff will deal with all aspects of intellectual property law from our new base at offices within the Prospect Business Centre building at Dundee Technology Park.

Partner Katrina Peebles - who grew up in Muirhead on the outskirts of Dundee - heads up the new office, which opened on October 25 2005.

Katrina is extremely well placed to support opportunities arising from the burgeoning life sciences sector in Dundee as she holds an Honours Degree in Biochemistry from St Andrews University and a Masters in Management of Intellectual Property Law from the University of London.

Katrina said, "Dundee is a world leader in the biotechnology and life sciences sector and continues to innovate in many other sectors.

"The protection of intellectual property in law is crucial as without it an idea can be copied and used by a third party without permission.

"This causes serious problems for a researcher or inventor as their original idea can be used for the commercial gain of a third party without credit being given and without proper remnuneration.

"It is therefore essential that new ideas are protected in law. With our wealth of experience in the field Ablett & Stebbing are perfectly placed to carry out that process.

"We are delighted by our new office in Dundee and hope it heralds an exciting new era for Ablett & Stebbing."

Founding partner Graham Ablett said branching out into the Scottish marketplace would add a new dynamic to the firm.

He said, "Scotland has a proud history of innovation - Dundee alone has played host to the pioneers of such remarkable inventions as X-Rays and radar and contemporary discoveries such as the p53 cancer suppressor gene - and our role is to harness and protect such ground-breaking work through the application of the law.
